Giant fucking robots ARE cool, but I am much more excited by midget fucking robots. By that I mean small robots having sex with other small robots- not robots (of any size) having sex with small people… Although that is fun too it’s just not what I want in my game.
Until Spartan gives me an accurate way to dipict cybernetic debauchery in 15mm I’m out.
I just picked up the 2-player box set for Planetfall a few weeks ago and I’m kind of glad that I’m just now “discovering” the game. Seems like a year and a half from release, it’s finally coming into it’s own with all the helices available, updated orbats, and even a 2.0 rulebook in the very near future. Now I just need to find some more players in my area. 😀
I think if I come home with another box and say “Look honey! I found a new game!” my marriage might end. I’d rather that not happen, because she’s totally the good looking one in our relationship.
I was tempted to get into Uncharted Seas when it first launched. The Man o’ War nostalgia was strong, but by the time other people here were interested the game had already been shelved in favour of newer lines.
This is part of the reason why I can’t get into Firestorm. Spartan seems a little bit scatterbrained when it comes to supporting their existing lines. It doesn’t help that they released Planetfall unfinished, and it now looks like they’ll release a second edition of the rules to rebalance things.
On top of this, they’ve just announced a new HALO expansion with ground forces, so I have to wonder how much attention they can dedicate to their other non-licensed games.
I’ve become a big fan of Dropzone Commander, and am excited about Andy Chambers and Hawk miniatures upcoming Dropfleet Commander. There is too much overlap between those games and Planetfall and Firestorm Armada for me to get too excited about Spartan’s games, especially since several friends and I gave Dystopian Wars a shot awhile back, but it never really clicked and became a core game in our lineups. We are all veteran gamers, but had a hard time actually navigating thier rulebooks and figuring out how the game should be played.
